Cyberpunk Ferrari Racecar in 2077

This was a personal project I made during my post-graduation break while I just began learning Blender and really needed a subject to sink my teeth into. Given the global hype of CD Projekt Red’s upcoming game Cyberpunk 2077, I wanted to create a Ferrari within that world as its backdrop. 

Experimenting with a fresh styling, extreme proportion, and intricate model all in one.

 

The Client

In the year 2077, the abilities of humanity is called into question with AI becoming pervasive and threatening to escape the Blackwall. As symbols of human kind’s superiority, biomechanically-enchanced drivers take on the machines in deadly races throughout Night City. A war to prove the power of simple human ingenuity.

The City

Night City is a vibrant and dangerous place, where new innovations constantly appear and swallow the past in its wake

There are numerous districts with their own charm and purpose, controlled by megacorporations such as Arasaka and Militech. The streets are bustling, with dangerous street races taking over and an increasing body count as gunners bring in bigger artillery for every match. Automobiles not only act as a show of wealth in this dystopia, but also as a means of survival as anyone walking the streets can fall victim to cyberattacks and mercenary action. 

Where Old is New and More is… More

The Cyberpunk 2077 asthetic is a mix of classic designs of the 70s – 90s and futuristic elements & asthetics. While many designs are recognizable as classic models through their silhouettes and some features, it is buried behind 10 layers of gear/lights/weaponary/security and so forth. Because in the year 2077, where resources wars are a necessity, people flaunt their status with how much they own and “minimalism” is more of a foreign language. 

The 312 P. Digitized.

Given cyberpunk’s use of classic designs to stylize its futuristic vehicles, I decided to use the Ferrari 312 P from 1969 as my base vehicle. While maintaining its exotic volumes and “Function guided Art” asthetic, further funtionality and futuristic styling was mixed in

Modelling Process

The final model was created in Blender over 2.5 months. The process included modeling, texturing, detailing, rigging and animating.

Active Aero

Each fender features an independent flap that raises and lowers depending on the guidance of the onboard AI, allowing for improved downforce, stopping distance, and cornering.

Wind-Swept Volumes

The body was designed to allow for optimal amount of air flow, channeling it around the tub and above the fender flaps to achieve down force.

Control the Road

The exaggerated width and low center of gravity ensures snappy handling and stability.
